I agree. A larger amount of savings is best.

Use the no interest. Your using their money not yours. I pay those off in 11 months so I'm sure not to accrue interest.

I love that you did this! I also did a video on my why. I thought it was a great collab. I think you made a smart decision since it is no interest. I know a lot of people might say any debt is bad, but I like that you pointed out personal finance is personal. I say this all the time myself. What one person is comfortable with or uncomfortable with doesn't mean everyone else should do the same.

Dawn I wouldn’t stress to much about going back into debt. Just think of it as an opportunity to get your hustle back on. I know since becoming debt free I need hard goals to keep me motivated. I bet you smash it quicker than you think, because it will spur you on to get rid of it.

I do exactly as you do keep 6,000 in savings plus more but the 6,000 is used for the end of the year bills like taxes, life insurance, car insurance which I have to pay twice a year since they won't let me pay a whole year at a time and this is used when an added expense like home repair, car repair or purchase of something that cannot be repaired. The no-interest credit card I have used at times and why not, don't have to empty my savings and the money it earns. What is nice is I have the money to pay for things and not have the worry of how I am going to pay for unexpected bills and bills I know are due at the end of the year. Debt-free is not something I expect to be in my life so sounds silly but is not a goal I set but the goal I set is paying all bills on time, never pay interest on a credit card and keep a savings.

Dawn,maybe you should start a sinking fund to replace the appliances.they are getting older,and will eventually need to be replaced. Plus,newer appliances will save on water,gas,electricity. Worth looking into. Not saying you dont take care of your things,but they are older,and may not work so effectively.

Personally, I would have paid on the AC differently. I would have put the $$ I put down on the AC in a separate account (wealthfront.com @ 2.32%- instead of paying half as down payment). I would have made the required payments at 0% as low and as long as they would let me. At the end of the agreed period, I would have pulled the money I saved in wealthfront and pay off the balance. I would have made money on the 0% by the interest accrued in wealthfront.

I live in an old home with no air conditioner. But I do have a house fan with air and a lot of trees in my backyard, which provides shade and cool breezes in the summer. I’m happy without it, but that’s probably because I live in Ohio. It’s not warm all year long so I get a break. Lol

I'm not really clear on why people don't take the 12 mo interest free payment plan when possible. Perhaps i'm in a different situation. I would think it would be building your credit, while the money in savings or invested would be building also.

At least it's debt for a good reason and not debt like some get into like they just wanted to go on a spending spree.

@eileenlester4342
Aside from the normal reasons that you should want to be debt-free... people tend to forget that they are paying interest on credit cards and loans. It's sure adds up! 💜

This is why Dave Ramsey recommends 3-6 months emergency fund.That would cover this type of emergency.

Why get out of debt?
1.you have less stress
2.you control where your money goes
3.more freedom

@Nance-th5hw
I agree with you Dawn. I am a single mom to 2 teens and I was laid off at the beginning of the summer. Unfortunately, I did not have any sort of savings. I've been able to make it work so far, however, this summer would have been a lot less stressful if I had some emergency money saved up. I can't wait to get back to work specifically just to start building up some savings. I did not realize until I was laid off how much little $ we could actually survive on. I can't believe how much $ I used to waste when I was working and I thought I was struggling then 😂anyhow, yes I totally agree, I would rather choose a short term amount of small monthly payments than having nothing if monthly income were to change.

The quote “When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions” seems to apply to life and I am not sure why this happens but it is good to have some money socked away in the bank because life is so unpredictable that you just never know what will happen from day to day. I have almost got the point that SAVING is my motto!

My ex sister inlaws AC went out in July this year. Cost her $7,000 to fix-replace it. She put it on a Credit Card! Yikes.
