 | i respect and agree with most everything cornette says but he doesnt understand that wrestling had to change into what it kinda is now.in the 80s we entered a time when people would sue over anything.as a result u couldnt have the beer drinking people that thought wrestling was at least somewhat real.back then people would throw stuff fight and stuff like that.people would get hurt in the crowd and some would sue the arena and the arena would sue the wrestling company.the insurance companies would start charging wrestling companies would charge out the roof.as a result wrestling would no longer excist.  | I'm somewhere between the Corny style and the WWE style... and not really near the Indy style... when it comes to wrestling fandom. But I know EXACTLY why Jim is lost about all this. He doesn't understand what this AEW style is all about: memes. That's it. Memes. - It's honestly pathetic that Jericho would say some as blanket as he did. If Jim described everything that happened in that match (re: I didn't initially watch it because I'm not interested, but now definitely never will after the "drowning" spot), then it sounds like boring and unfunny slopbucket. And do I have a soul? Yes. If I want real comedy, I'll put on Dave Chappelle or Always Sunny. - This AEW run has exposed Jericho for his biggest flaw: as much I love him, he's quite honestly a class clown. When put into an environment that keeps it in check, he's all-timer tier brilliant. Constantly reinventing himself. Putting over the simplest of catchphrases. Etc etc. But when he's in an environment that doesn't put his clown tendencies into check, his character jumps the shark. - Brian Last is spot-on when he calls AEW self-indulgent. And no matter WHAT it is, I'm immediately turned off by people's self-indulgence. I'm NOT here to watch you fancy yourself! So I definitely feel Corny and Last's frustrations, especially given that AEW got a great shot at providing some other options than WWE, which is quite stale over the past few years.
