Swords like that aren't made for plate armor , I mean it is obvious , a crusader sword isn't made to smash crusader armour , its meant to break through Turkish plated Chainmail.  | Had the religious guy had a sharper blade he likely would have won. That being said, a longsword isn't always meant to be super sharp. Sharp is good for riding down peasants, but you want some bluntness to it to slam the piece of metal into armour clad enemies. However, it seems the relgious guy didn't have enough sharpness at the top end of the blade, which is the area knights made sharp. The base kept more dull so you could halfhand or use it to bash, etc. That Dave's sword was beautiful though. WHat i imagine a witchers sword to be like.
