@user-ed9rv1bj2k
Ah, what I always miss in those vids is the part qhere they take into account what we have here. The Witcher is not a normal human being, he is superior in every way - the fight itself while rightfully analysed in regard to do's and don'ts shows this particular superiority. He doesn't even need to try to take down those thugs. Good filmmaking right there with the right choice of acting/fighting for it.

@GenX-Rising
The way the swords always perfectly clash into each other and both fighters are applying brute force is something that you would never see in any real sword fight from anytime in antiquity. That's a fancy word for history

@Generalscorpio
In Gladiator the lack of use of the off-hand by Russell Crowe's character can actually be explained in the film.

Prior to the fight when he was chained up the Emperor stabbed him, I believe in the back of the shoulder of his off-hand so he has less movement as a result.

@Michael-dy2lb
The Princess Bride fight scene between Inigo and the Dread Pirate Roberts is just perfection, and for exactly the reason this guy said. It's furthering the narrative all while having a fantastic sword fight. Until the end, they're both taking the swordplay entirely seriously without really seeming to be put out by it.

In Game of Thrones, my favorite part of the Hound's fights isn't how he uses the sword so much as how to he's always ready to deliver a gauntleted fist to the face when the distance closes. He's a huge strong warrior and he's going to use that strength to his advantage as much as possible, and that includes knocking someone's teeth in.

You can tell he's a swordmaster, not just by his knowledge, but this man's mustache looks like it can pierce and cut through 5 inches of steel by itself with little to no problem

@khallkhall7237
I like this guy. He's good and unlike a lot of other experts seems to account for the narrative and emotions of the scene and what the director is trying to convey with them. A lot of experts in their field feel so stuffy because they can't comprehend that some stuff needs to be different for movies. (It's part of why a lot of fight scenes have big sweeping motions too, so they are easier to see on camera/stage. But even those he mostly doesn't call out too much.)

@GMZohar14
These sword "experts" are funny sometimes... They can say "they wouldn't do that or this because there is no logic to it" all they want. But truth be told, no one alive today knows what it's like to be in a sword fight with your life on the line, all these so called experts and fencers trying to use modern thinking and saying that's what they would have really done. Just because it doesn't make sense to do certain things in sword fights today, doesn't mean it didn't make sense to them back then. Don't forget 25 years ago the strategy for dealing with school shooters was to stand outside and wait for everyone to die, in todays thinking that doesn't make any sense at all.

Disagree with the first one...regardless of history on it, practical use of a longsword in close-quarters is best achieved with a reverse grip; you get better control, coverage, and overall use with the blade pointed down.

@CutzMcOnions
he was really charitable with the red room fight scene. he didnt even analyze it the way he did the others. or maybe they edited out all his comments about rey's silly sword fight
Комментарий от : @CutzMcOnions

@CutzMcOnions
my only issue with experts commenting on superhuman fights is that they tend to forget theyre analyzing super humans fighting. like in this case, the witcher, he fights like that cuz he was trained to fight monsters and he's currently enraged. his style doesnt really adhere to documented combat styles cuz we dont fkn fight monsters. he's using something unconventional and he's brutal cuz he's enraged looking down on his opponents as "mere thugs".

@Ami-vh7sr
A swords Master who doesn't know Bonetti Defense?

The infiltration of Italian ideology into England was due, largely, to the craze among the upper classes for Italian culture. During the sixteenth century every English parent who could afford it sent his sons adventuring across the Alps to acquire polish in what was reputed to be the Promised Land. When the news of Signior Rocco’s incredible proceedings reached the Masters of Defence in conclave assembled, their indignation knew no bounds. Some action had to be taken to correct him, and if, as was stated in their licences, the Queen had renewed the monopoly of teaching granted to the fraternity by her Royal father, the Masters had only to bring the offender before the nearest justice to be dealt with according to the terms of the Patent.

@andybrown4284
The GoT fights tend to have too many cuts and jumping between shots that are done up close so the "drama" of the fight is created in the editing rather than the choreography.
Комментарий от : @andybrown4284

@SpiderRiviera
I understand his critiques of the star wars fight, but come on. They're Jedi, they're the ONE class of being in the entire universe that could fight back-to-back and not end up chunky salsa on the other's blade. Plus I'm pretty sure those two had a Force bond which boosted their abilities to boot.

@jcgreenenc
Just a random anecdote, I recently discovered that one of my ancestors was known as "The Greatest Swordsman in Europe." That rather amused me
Комментарий от : @jcgreenenc

@jcgreenenc
Yeah, Henry Cavill is very devoted to as much authenticity as he can bring to a character. There's a lot about the way he moves as Geralt, not just in battles but in everything, that is extremely deliberate and formulated very specifically. He supposedly studied the way various types of predators move in certain situations to determine how he would move as Geralt. For instance, he studied how lions conduct themselves when they aren't threatened and adapted it into the way Geralt appears very calm, moving almost slowly, frequently turning his back to others, unworried and confident that there's no chance that they are capable of doing him any harm. He's also supposed to have studied how snakes strike their prey to help develop how Geralt would move in a fight. The result, very quick, smooth movements in a flowing sequence of one sudden but accurate strike after another. The man is a master of his craft.

@s1moni336
Just so you guys know the way Geralt in Witcher holds the sword in that scene to show he doesn't even need to go hard on those people. That's why he change how holds the sword when he's fighting Renfri cuz he feels in danger.

I really would’ve liked to of seen him rate musketeer movies, especially the version with Michael York. I’m very surprised that he gave Princess Bride just a 7/10 when he said it was the very best. Of course, the names of moves were all made up. I really would’ve liked to of seen his assessment of The Last Samurai. I think the scene of Tom Cruise with the four samurai was some of the best sword fighting on screen I’ve seen.

Комментарий от : @maotisjan

@joan4p704
Revisited this great video. In movies, when the hero fights a group, it looks pretty cool if you focus on the hero. But try focusing on one of the bad guys and you'll immediately realize how ridiculous it all looks. They move a lot just to give time to the hero and pretend they're doing something...

In fact they waste 9 of every 10 opportunities to stab his back, just to allow him to win.

So most of these movies have experts who advise them on various matters like details, tactics, battle formations employed, strategy, armor used, uniform etc etc. That angle needs to be covered as well as how those so called experts got it wrong who i am sure haave quite the reputation as well. What were their inputs, which ones were rejected, what they agreed to for the sake of cinematics and what they didnt agree to but still made it to the final edit.
